Rika “Popular”

Quick little artwork of Rika from Digimon Tamers singing “Popular” from Wicked the Musical. For those who don’t get this reference, Melisa Fahn, Rika’s english voice actress, actually was an understudy for Glinda in the broadway show. In fact there’s even footage of her singing the song Popular (out of costume) on Youtube. And every time I watch it, I just imagine Rika singing the song.

Oh I would’ve loved to see Melisa doing a live show, thought she’s now retired from it. Melisa Fahn has THE most enchanting voice of any voice actress I’ve ever heard. I could listen to her all day, even if she was talking about air particles for twelve hours straight.

Saurasomon (plus Evolutions)

Sorry for my long absence, I really have been working on art, just kinda forgot to upload. Plus I was house sitting for my parents for a solid month and everything got kinda thrown off then. Anyway here’s my latest large project.

So this is reviving one of my oldest ideas ever. So those who know me should know I’m a huge Digimon fan, it’s kinda the big part of childhood I hold onto. So as a kid, I kinda created my own “partner Digimon” kinda used to draw him and me in coloring books and stuff. Well the original character was called Dinomon (a name that now belongs to another real life Digimon). He was originally kinda an ugly mix and match of dinosaur parts, probably not a very creative design as I was eight.

Now today I’m reviving the character, completely redesigned with a new name of Saurasomon. The term comes from the latin word “saur” which means lizard. Also it’s kinda where we get the word Dinosaur. And here we even have his full evolution line all the way from Rookie to Mega level. This was a real hard working project. Virtually every form wen through various concept drawings. While the Champion Level and Mega Level I kinda had a good idea from the beginning, the Ultimate Level took a quite a few tries before finally landing at the final design.

I also spent a lot of time researching Digimon evolution stages, and really strove to make every stage more advanced and better designed than the last. So nobody would say “that should be this stage.” Hope everyone enjoys it, cause it sure was a lot of work creating them all.

Kalwa character sheets

These have already been posted to the Kalwa website, but I wanted to post them here too. So I’ve started making character sheets of my characters as a way keep consistency amongst drawings. Namely color is kinda a struggle since I wind up shifting through tones of old drawings through disks.

I’ve also wanted to have some colorful production art to show off amongst my original work as well as trying to keep some design consistency. Mainly Kalwa’s ponytail hair style is the source of trouble, since it’s a very subtle change to her normal hair. It was actually based off a really life issue with drawing her hair too close to her eyes, as seen below.

I’m currently working on one for Reko too, and have one for my character the Raptor Queen, whose story I’m trying to get back to working on.

Envy

First ever fanart of Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist. One of my favorite anime villains and one of the few anime villains I consider to be a really great character. Envy’s the best kind of villain, a bully who relishes in other’s suffering, and he’s got a real snarky and cheerful attitude about doing it. You just really love to hate this guy.
