From the sketchbook: Kalwa and Zack

Just a few sketches from the sketchbook, these are some random sketches of Kalwa and Zack. I believe the Kalwa drawing was done shortly after the change in style of the eyes, it was also to practice some gestures with her. This was also done when she would have three bangs on the left side of her head, a style that has since been abandoned. Now days she’s drawn with two bangs on each side of her head regardless of which side you see.

Zack was drawn shortly before his major role in chapter 14 of the comic, mostly practicing his facial expressions. This sketch was actually the debut of his current hairstyle which was actually based off the hair of my character Tai Bantly (often drawn with Twilight Sparkle). Initially Zack simply had spiky hair that went straight up, but it was changed to a more hedge look for chapter 14 and has remained that way since. Sometimes when drawing him it gets hard to get the length of the hairs consistent.

Sonic and Shadow back at Gotham!

So I was just in yesterday at Gotham City Comics picking up an order and I discovered that Sonic and Shadow prints had sold out, much to my excitement. So I just gave them another batch yesterday! If you’re all looking to purchase these prints and happen to live in the Phoenix area, they are available now at Gotham City comics for $10 each. And be sure to check out Gotham themselves, they are an awesome store!

Irene Sketches

So just recently Irene made her way back to Green Raptor Studios. As mentioned before she is actually an adult transformed into a 10 year old girl. So as a bit of a celebration of her return, here’s a couple of early sketches I drew of Irene when I first creating her, including a few drawings of her in her adult form before her transformation.

Irene

Irene, the World’s Cutest Sorceress is back. I first drew this character several years ago, and she’s stayed in limbo since. So the backstory with this character is that she was once a full grown sorceress that possessed the power of a god until she ticked off a real god who transformed her into a ten year old girl. She was then sent to earth being told that the only way to reverse the spell was to protect earth from a great evil, which was actually a lie to get rid of her, the only real way to reverse the spell is to grow up naturally. Because she’s an adult in a child’s body, she’s quite mature for her age, though most people don’t take her seriously. Despite her maturity she is prong to child like characteristics such as temper tantrums and an addiction to ice cream and dolls (though the latter of which partially stems from her rough childhood).

Irene Sketch

Decided to revive this character after all this time. This is Irene, World’s Cutest Sorceress, I created her a couple of years ago. I decided to revisit that character after she got a recent fav on Deviant Art. The colored version will be coming soon, to which I’ll give a little more detail on her back story.

Dee Dee

I’ve been watching Ballmasterz 9000 a lot recently ever since they put it on Toonami due to Covid-19 making it hard to dub new anime episodes. I usually intend to turn away, yet I start watching just a little and then I’m hooked. One particular character that captures my attention is Dee Dee who is the bipolar member of cast. She is usually animated with beautiful and cute eyes, but quickly turns to eccentric and rather demonic appearances when thrown into fits of rage (which is very often). She’s really a wonder to watch because her animation is gorgeous half the time and hilarious the other half. So I wound up drawing her during some down time.

Ironically Ballmasterz actually uses a number of techniques I use in my own artwork, like crosshatching shading to indicate shadows, sometimes even to just shade. So actually when I was drawing this I kinda felt at home, and oftentimes I try to go back and make sure my crosshatch doesn’t look too obvious and sloppy, but here I felt it was welcome and helped to be simulate the look and feel of the show.

Amber Page Update!

Sorry it’s been a while everyone. I’ve got a little more time on my hands these days so I’m working to get more pages done faster. Anyway, there is a brand new page of Amber up in which our friend Phillip actually visits the site on the card from earlier, what does he find? Click the thumbnail below and find out.

Sasha in Surfers Paradise

So this is essentially how I spent my Forth of July, I wanted to do yet another drawing representing summer. I always like to draw these because it’s an excuse to draw girls in swimsuits and play with lots of light effects. This year I decided to do Sasha who hasn’t shown up in any color drawings for a while. I finally was able to do a dusk at the beach look after experimenting with the overlays for a number of months.
