HALLOWEEN DRAW OFF ROUND 1

It’s officially October, the best time of the year. You all know what that means, its time for the Annual Green Raptor Halloween Draw Off. Since I first started operating under the name Green Raptor Studios back in 2015, it has been a tradition to go all out at Halloween time drawing monsters, demons and anything scary from pop culture, as well as few Halloween themes to our own original characters… and a few things here and there. While it started off as a small thing on Deviant Art, over the years it’s grown only larger and is always one of the biggest events I look forward to all year.

This year we got FOURTEEN drawings planned that we will be putting up all month long. Starting off our parade this year is Pinhead from the Hellraiser series and the Ghost Host from the Haunted Mansion. Pinhead has constantly been denied every Halloween Draw off till now. While he’s one of my favorite horror villains, I’ve always been intimidated at drawing all the pins in his head due to complexity. But I’m feeling a bit more confident nowadays and he’s finally showing up for the parade.

The Ghost Host is this year’s Haunted Mansion piece, they almost always find their way here. First the Hatbox Ghost made his debut in this draw off early on when it first started and then last year it was Constance Hatchaway, the bride. Now it’s time for the Ghost Host to make his debut in this draw off. Happy October and stick around, I’ll be here all month long.

Cryptkeep (Tales from The Crypt Fanart)

Everyone, the Halloween spirit is starting to BOIL in me right now. I know it’s still July and we got like three more months to go, but already I’m longing for Halloween time. You all know each year I do the big Halloween draw off where it’s a full month of art featuring monsters or other horror icons from pop culture, as well as some Halloween stuff for my own creations. For me personally it’s also a time for horror movies and books, and last year was so much fun. But oh, the waiting.

Anyway, the feeling boiled to the top and here’s a drawing of the Crypt Keeper from Tales from the Crypt. He’s not currently on the list for this year’s draw off, but trust me, we’ll have some great stuff. Just hang on a little longer, October is only three months away.

Extraterroresstrial alien encounter

For those Disney park fans this might be a little familiar. So this is vicious alien from the now closed attraction ExtraTERROResstrial Alien Encounter. It’s widely considered to be scariest attraction Disney has ever made, as it was sit down theater ride that encloaked the audience in total darkness and used binary sound and special effects to simulate this vicious beast moving about the room. It was so intense that there were warning signs all around the the attraction warning it might be too intense for younger children.

These signs however didn’t stop the attraction from gaining notoriety as being too scary and it was shut down after only eight years. It was later replaced with Stitch’s Great Escape which quickly became an unpopular attraction that closed itself, leaving the theater at Magic Kingdom currently deserted. While I never rode the attraction myself, I do remember seeing it when I went to Disneyworld back in 2000. I was only ten years old then and I was scared to go on many rides, so of course the signs chased me away. I’ve since kinda become fascinated by the attraction cause I’ve grown up to be a horror lover and really just eat up anything scary. Though I admit I’m not a fan of haunted house attractions just cause I don’t like people jumping out at me.

Owl House/ HP LOVEcraft Trilogy

A trilogy of artwork I did featuring the Owl house crossed over with the world of HP Lovecraft, mainly his monster god Cthulu. The first picture was done late last year and the latter two were completed this year, with the final one being done last week.

This originally started as a simple joke, but there were some comments on facebook noting it could be a real crossover that would make sense, so the latter two pieces were made much more serious and a bit more mature. The second image was done BEFORE the Owl House finale and even just before the second special. So concepts such as Stringbean and the time-skip at the end hadn’t yet aired, resulting in the creation of an original adult Luz design in a more apocalyptic world.

Cthulu Rises

Artwork of HP Lovecraft’s most famous creature, the ancient god of the old world Cthulu. This had been in my sketchbook since I drew HP Lovecraft himself (posted earlier this month), but I felt the sketch needed some work before becoming a full on drawing, so it took a little while longer to do. I actually just read the Call of Cthulu book a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the story and Lovecraft’s writing style, which helped with the drive needed to finish this.

I kinda wanted to go for the whole monster in the mist feeling, keeping giant Cthulu mostly in shadow against the bad storm, giving off the perspective of what those sailors on board are seeing. A giant mysterious creature that only spells their impending doom.

Anyway, hope you all like my lastest “masterpiece.”
