HALLOWEEN DRAW OFF ROUND 1

It’s officially October, the best time of the year. You all know what that means, its time for the Annual Green Raptor Halloween Draw Off. Since I first started operating under the name Green Raptor Studios back in 2015, it has been a tradition to go all out at Halloween time drawing monsters, demons and anything scary from pop culture, as well as few Halloween themes to our own original characters… and a few things here and there. While it started off as a small thing on Deviant Art, over the years it’s grown only larger and is always one of the biggest events I look forward to all year.

This year we got FOURTEEN drawings planned that we will be putting up all month long. Starting off our parade this year is Pinhead from the Hellraiser series and the Ghost Host from the Haunted Mansion. Pinhead has constantly been denied every Halloween Draw off till now. While he’s one of my favorite horror villains, I’ve always been intimidated at drawing all the pins in his head due to complexity. But I’m feeling a bit more confident nowadays and he’s finally showing up for the parade.

The Ghost Host is this year’s Haunted Mansion piece, they almost always find their way here. First the Hatbox Ghost made his debut in this draw off early on when it first started and then last year it was Constance Hatchaway, the bride. Now it’s time for the Ghost Host to make his debut in this draw off. Happy October and stick around, I’ll be here all month long.

Wargreymon

Just posting a little more work before this site turns to spook central next month. So here’s a piece I did of WarGreymon, my favorite Digimon. Despite my desire to draw him one day, I had no idea what to do for a pose. This was kinda just a spill of the moment, though I’m still happy with the way it turned out.

Movie Shadow the Hedgehog

Ever since the trailer dropped, my heart is soaring for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This movie’s gonna feature Shadow the Hedgehog, a character I’ve held so very close to my heart since I was a kid. More importantly they look to be following his original origin and character from Sonic Adventure 2, which I’m hoping will finally do away with edge lord rival Shadow and bring back the classic tragic hero Shadow I know and love. So right now I’m kinda on a Sonic craze fueled with Nostalgia.

Big Head (the Mask)

Been years since I drew this character, but here’s a brand new illustration of Big Head, better known as the Mask to the public. This is NOT based off the Jim Carrey film, which honestly I can’t even watch anymore. This is based off the more violent and gory comics that inspired the films, which are most likely the most underrated comics of all time.

Unlike the Jim Carrey film in which the Mask was portrayed as a wacky “superhero,” the comic version was violent vigilante. The title the Mask actually referred to the mask itself and not the character it unleashed, and the mask itself actually had multiple users. Within these stories the mask would find it’s way to troubled people who were down on their luck and had pent up aggression towards the world around them. The mask would essentially turn them into powerful gods and give them the power to unleash that anger on the world. Some users were real criminals while some like Lt. Kellaway were more like violent anti-heros.

The comics had a theme of when an innocent joke went to far. The characters would lash out at the world around them, but sometimes catch themselves hurting those close to them, and the drama would drive them into a state of terror. I really hope with the success of R-rated films like Deadpool that we may one day see a more faithful adaptation of the Mask comic, heck I’ll even help fund it.

Kang the Conquerer

This project was started before the news broke at SDCC about the future of the MCU. It was originally just supposed to be a project showing my love for the Marvel villain Kang, whose my second favorite villain after Dr. Doom. But now I suppose it’s a tribute to what has been lost.

Although I’m happy that Dr. Doom is finally entering the MCU (though not too happy about the actor playing him), I’m pretty upset that the whole Kang story is just getting dropped. I was looking forward to a possible adaptation of the Kang Dynasty storyline, and now the great Kang the Conquerer is now trapped to only be in an Ant-Man movie. It’s so sad because the character has so much more potential. As a time traveler, he’s equipped with virtually all weapons across time. Weapons from the future, tatics from the past and knowledge of historic events. Truly Kang is a very creative and overall fascinating character see.

As a multiverse hopper, the MCU could’ve produced essentially the same results. But sadly we’ll never know now, and Kang will probably go down as that “big bad” that just got dropped. Very sad, but at least we still have the comics, where us Kang fans can only dream of him being properly portrayed on the big screen.

Miku Nakano

I’m so behind on my uploading. This image is quite a few weeks old. So here’s Miku Nakano from the anime the Quintenssential Quintuplets. She’s my favorite of the sisters, plus she’s voiced by Felicia Angelle who also voices Kohaku from Dr. Stone (pretty sure you know how much I like her).

This was drawn on the some extra time. I was rewatching the Quintessential Quintuplets for like the tenth time while working on Kalwa pages and just felt like drawing her in a fanservice like pose.

I am Sakuyamon

Yet another Digimon piece, this one based off of season three, also known as Digimon Tamers, aka the best season yet. The whole Biomerge concept is pretty cool for Digimon, the idea of Digidestined fusing with their Digimon and both enter the battlefield. It was also similar to Spirit Evolution in which a kid is fused with a spirit to become a Digimon. It was a cool idea, but was used in my opinion in a lame season, that being Frontier.

Anyway, here’s Sakuyamon, the fusion of Rika and her Digimon Renamon. Of course I was gonna do Rika, she’s my favorite character from Tamers and one of my favorite characters in the whole Digimon Franchise.

Diaboromon

Very recently, I’ve fallen into a Digimon group on Facebook which has kinda reignited a spark in me. Digimon was a major part of my childhood and it’s remained kinda that one special fandom I’ve grasped onto through childhood into adulthood, much like how people grasp onto Power Rangers or their favorite movies.

So here’s a recent artwork I did of Diaboromon, my favorite villain of the franchise. Debuting in the movie Digimon: Our War Game, Diaboromon is a truly fascinating creature. He lives within the confines of the internet and travels all around hacking into systems and causing mass chaos. His ultimate move came when he hacked into a nuclear facility and launching nuclear warheads at Japan.

I specifically remember when the Digimon Movie came out in the USA, they gave out free cards with tickets. My card was Diaboromon and I was initially upset cause I wanted his more heavily promoted previous form Infermon. Years later, I’m so happy I got Diaboromon, and yes I still have the card.

Cryptkeep (Tales from The Crypt Fanart)

Everyone, the Halloween spirit is starting to BOIL in me right now. I know it’s still July and we got like three more months to go, but already I’m longing for Halloween time. You all know each year I do the big Halloween draw off where it’s a full month of art featuring monsters or other horror icons from pop culture, as well as some Halloween stuff for my own creations. For me personally it’s also a time for horror movies and books, and last year was so much fun. But oh, the waiting.

Anyway, the feeling boiled to the top and here’s a drawing of the Crypt Keeper from Tales from the Crypt. He’s not currently on the list for this year’s draw off, but trust me, we’ll have some great stuff. Just hang on a little longer, October is only three months away.
