Miki Character Art

So I showed off her brother a few days ago, now it’s time to show off another character who will be making her debut in the next Kalwa arch. This is Miki Sato, a sweet yet shy member of the Sato clan who often times tends to get targeted by father’s enemies in an attempt to get him. Luckily she is often protected by her big brother Toshiro and later forms somewhat of bond with Kalwa’s brother Zack whom she will be playing a major part in his future character arch. I actually had an image of her from the original Kalwa story that I had been writing in high school, but hadn’t done any sketches of her since. So this was kinda an on the whim drawing with prior knowledge of her and a few adjustments all thrown into one. Ironically she looks almost completely different than the original drawing I did of her in high school where she looked a little more tomboyish and less cute than what I think came out.

Toshiro Sketch

I’ve put a few WIPs on social media, so this is a character who will be debuting in the next story arch of Kalwa. This character is named Toshiro Sato who is actually set to become not only a major character in the arch, but in the overall Kalwa story as a whole. Toshiro is the son of a master swordsman named Hideyoshi, who started his own foundation in the feudal era and trains runaways in the way of weapons. Toshiro is not only his son, but his assistant in training new students. He’s also got a little sister named Miki who he is constantly trying to protect. I’ll be doing a portrait for her as well later on.

We are rounding into the final end of Amber’s long going one shot which I do admit has been going on just a little too long past the date I intended to finish it. But we are moving now and closing in on the end as we are now bringing this major heist to a close. Power Swimming Amber

It’s been a long time since I did a color image of Amber, mostly all the work with her has been in the comic pages. I admit that I kinda lost a bit of an urge to draw her because of all the work on the comic and I’m gonna admit that I made a mistake with the way I structured her story.

While I’m very happy by the positive response of Amber operating from a wheelchair, I feel I honestly have too many scenes in the comic of her confined to a wheelchair. The real fun of drawing a mermaid is having them swim in the ocean and playing with the flow of the body and motion. Simply drawing a mermaid being confined to a wheelchair as well as having to draw all the details of the wheelchair is not all the fun, especially when it goes on for twenty plus pages. So this drawing here is kinda the result of pent up aggression of not being able to draw a mermaid being free in the ocean for so long, and it really feels great to break free.
